Educational Philosophy

The primary objective of the A.T.P. is to train actors & singers to pursue & embrace their dreams of working or studying in the theatre.  The program's structure is designed to discipline each student in the needs, demands, requirements, & standards of professional level theatre work.

We believe the foundation of the curriculum should be diverse, electric, & disciplined in order to expose the students to various intellectual & physical acting styles & techniques.  Our classes are geared to help promote the concept of teamwork, while paying special attention to the individual needs of each student.

Students must be highly motivated & fully committed to the energy level that these concepts & work require.

The basic principle of the Actor Training Program is:  be prepared.  An actor is prepared when they have acquired & mastered the basics.  An actor is prepared when they have their acting class homework completed, in tandem with their other responsibilities.  An actor is prepared when they come to class ready, willing, & able to do the work required of them.

All ATP students are encouraged & required to have a disciplined approach to the craft of acting, which is the foundation for a good actor.
Every actor should have a tension-free body so that they can perform to their highest standard.  In order to release tension from within the body we employ several warm-up exercises specifically dedicated to warming-up the voice, body, & mind.
A sense of awareness is crucial to the acting process; it is a necessary ingredient for good theatre.  To that end, concentration & observation exercises are employed to hone those skills that can lead to awareness.
An actor should know how to manipulate their body, posture, mannerisms, & physicality.  All ATP students will participate in various master classes to introduce the basics of dance & physical movement.
